Tabes dorsalis, also known as syphilitic myelopathy, is a slow degeneration of the neural tracts primarily in the dorsal columns of the spinal cord & dorsal roots. These nerves normally help maintain a person's sense of position (proprioception), vibration, and discriminative touch.
