American evolutionary biologist and geneticist Thomas Hunt Morgan was first to use Drosophila melanogaster, the fruit fly, in genetic studies. Ha had a famous laboratory called The Fly Room at Columbia University. Morgan demonstrated that genes are carried on chromosomes. He wrote 22 books and 370 scientific papers.
