He is often called the Father of Railways. Stephenson built first railway from Darlington to Stockton in 1825. His locomotive pulled 36 wagons filled with sacks of coal and flour. The journey of just under 15 kilometers took two hours. Rail transport was the key technological inventions of the 19th century, which started the Industrial Revolution.
